Marglen Chooses URE to go SolarRome, Georgia – Marglen Industries has recently commissioned a 95.2 kilowatt solar energy photovoltaic (PV) energy system on their rooftop in Rome, Ga. The system was installed by Alpharetta, Georgia based United Renewable Energy, LLC, and is the largest in the Southeast to use Solyndra’s unique cylindrical thin-film solar energy system.

The system was installed on the rooftop of Marglen Industries plastic bottle recycling plant in Rome, Georgia. The plant produces a post consumer recycled PET resin that is used in the manufacturing of sustainable food-grade packaging. The plant also produces a polyester fiber that is used in the manufacturing of sustainable flooring and other textile products. As part of it’s overall sustainable mission, Marglen has emerged as a renewable energy visionary with their latest solar installation, but has been a leader in sustainability for decades.

We at Marglen Industries are committed to bringing our values and principles of sustainability to the forefront of our business. This solar array stands as our responsibility for leadership in the industry, and our goal to bring value to our community and customers.” said Marglen’s CEO John Burnes.

USFloors Turns Up the Solar PowerUSFLOORS is the largest producer of solar energy in Georgia.

DALTON, Ga., Nov. 12, 2010 /PRNewswire/ — In November of 2010, USFloors commissioned its third solar photovoltaic (PV) project intended to supply half of the facility’s energy. This installation of  365.04 kw is the largest solar array in Georgia, eclipsing the record once held by the Georgia Tech Natatorium, installed for the 1996 Olympics. Alpharetta-based United Renewable Energy installed 1521 Suniva solar panels and an SMA Sunny Central Inverter for this ARRA, GEFA Grant funded project . The combined output of all three USFloors solar arrays will total over half a Megawatt, and makes USFloors the largest producer of solar energy in the state of Georgia. USFloors is producing enough solar energy to power 54 average American homes, offsetting 11,400 tons of CO2 and nearly 23 million vehicle miles.

The Broome County Library is Going GreenView Video

The Broome County Library is going green, thanks to some new roof-top solar panels that are up and running .

The panels now line most of the roof of the library, They turn sun into energy that will be used by the library — plus enough extra to take three Binghamton homes off the grid.

One of the things that made the installation possible — the price of solar technology has dropped significantly over the past few years.

“I think the library has made a great stance here in demonstrating that this technology works today. It’s very robust, very efficient, and well-tested. So, it’s been around for years, and the difference is the cost has finally come down, and it’s in the reach of businesses and homeowners all across the Triple Cities and Broome County,” said Bill Silva, President of United Renewable Energy, LLC.
